Right-click menus for redesigned Facebook using Firefox!

August 13, 2008

With the recent redesign of Facebook, I’ve been getting questions regarding whether the add-on for Firefox is compatible with the newly redesigned version of Facebook.  After confiming over the last couple weeks with some of the ~500 daily users and the 2,000+ downloaders who have shared emails, the current version of UltimateFacebook is not only fully-compatible with Firefox 3 (and naturally Firefox 2), but also with the newly redesigned version of Facebook.  Install it by clicking here.

The add-on enables you to right-click any Facebook user and:

  • write on their wall
  • send them a message
  • poke them
  • add them to your friends
  • view their friends
  • see a thumbnail of them by rolling over their name in a news feed, photo gallery, etc
  • see how you connect to them
  • tag them
  • bookmark them – a.k.a ‘save them as a crush’ (invisibly — kept private)

Realizing why driving race cars is so effing awesome!

March 5, 2008

So driving this morning, I finally realized why I LOVE driving race cars so much. It’s the challenge and exhilaration of being on the edge but not over it. When I was a kid, I was the little turn who would poke someone just 1 time less than what it’d take to completely send them over the edge and, all the while, keeping me (somewhat) endearing. Yesterday, on the way home, I got my little car to solidly rotate into a turn (whoops happened to be on a public street) and it kinda just hit me. I had a smaller revelation the first time I got a racing car to rotate at Mid-Ohio, but this time it was different. The time it happened at Mid-O (and every time after), came from a tense ‘oh shit please keep me hooked up so I don’t die’ approach to a corner. This time, it was much more under control…and surprisingly…much smoother and quicker feeling. Guess it’s a tactile thing.

As I’ve read books like the Speed Secrets series and Skip Barber’s Going Faster, instructors and coaches always talk about being on the edge. But it wasn’t until this morning’s childhood regression that I finally connected the dots.

As we all (racing drivers that is) are trying to find ‘that thing’ that makes us faster. This is one barrier, I’m REALLY excited to have identified and broken through the was it feels like it should be.

Holy HOT MacBook Pro Batman! At 185˚F let’s just effing fry an egg on my Mac already!

March 2, 2008
In my every-strengthening efforts to bend my MacBook Pro’s will to do my Python bidding, the little titanium-clad lass decided today to get all hot and bothered with me….more specifically up to 185˚F.
Which is pretty friggin hot.
Consider this…
Egg white coagulates between 144 and 149°F, egg yolk coagulates between 149 and 158°F and whole eggs between 144 and 158°F.” – Egg Nutrition Center
I’m seriously considering getting a cool pack or something for this little sucker!

Being an anal-retentive hushed-toned paranoid entrepreneur…WTF?!?!?

February 24, 2008

Most of you who read my blog know pretty well by now that I’m a serial entrepreneur.  I’ve done 3 startups of my own and a 4th as a co-founder and CTO.  All of them have, at some point or another, have involved developing in a public venue like a Starbucks, random coffee shop, Borders, park bench and even, on more than one occasion, cliffs at the ocean.  What FINALLY dawned on me today, as I continue to evolve the Mojeeto File System and apply it to something truly useless using the Facebook API, is that WTF is up with all of the paranoia that we ALL have when we build stuff?  I mean REALLY?!?!?!  Is that random guy or gal in the coffee shop REALLY going to see over your shoulder enough or hear enough of your conversation to, in what will probably be noted as the first practical use of time travel, beat you to market with YOUR product, only better?  Will they glean the special sauce that you’ve supposedly come up with?!?!?  I think not.

I’ve been playing with distributed adaptive storage, natural language processing (NLP) and all-around cool effing ideas for the last 10 years now in technology.  NOT ONCE has some random bojo ripped me off by seeing what I’m working on in a coffee shop or the Old Pro (a sports bar in downtown Palo Alto owned in-part by super-company board member and Intuit CEO Bill Campbell).  While I’m not saying that I’m going to stop being so damn ridiculous when I build, I have realized I’m gonna relax a bit and stop peering over my shoulder like someone is feverishly copying my code +/or designs.

Recollection of the day…Keanu in Point Break (Marquette 1992)

September 2, 2007

So being at the beach in Santa Cruz today got me reminiscing. So I thin, on an on-going basis, I’m gonna start posting cool shit that’s happened to me along the way and y’all (yes I just wrote y’all) might dig it, might not. But I care not. After all this is my scratching post, not yours.

Here’s the first recollection…

When my buddy from high school Pete and I teamed up to dorm together sophomore year, I think we watched Point Break maybe 50-100 times. Best line EVER…. (as said by Keanu Reeves) ‘Bodi, this your wake up call…I…am an F…B…I..agent!’ Now the one thing I’ve always had a problem with is getting Keanu’s association with Bill & Ted’s outta my head. Him as an F.B.I. guy won’t fly…and him as the savior of humanity took a good bit of ‘suspension of disbelief.’ However, with the Matrix the leap was larger and, because so, apparently easier.

BTW…did anyone know that James Cameron (ala Terminator, The Abyss, Titanic) produced this movie?!?!?!?
