That’s no moon! That’s A SPACE STATION! (and a Shuttle!)

June 20, 2007

This afternoon, my buddy Doug pinged me saying that tonight the Shuttle and the International Space Station would be visible to the naked eye. Checked out NASA and got the times. Luckily, we live in the right corridor to see them if I could only get the timing right. Tried early at 9:02 and managed to totally miss them.

But again at 10:37, I hobbled to the middle of my street on the crutches and saw one of the most amazing things of my life. In the sky, in lock-step, I watched 2 white-amber glows rise from the horizon. It is officially my first glimpse of human space travel and the re-realization that anything in the world is possible.

Here’s the link to the San Jose schedule for the next several days. As well as the page to see if you’re city/state/etc is in the orbital path.

Also, here’s the link to the Java ISS and Shuttle tracker. Cool stuff.
